Living the Dream

There is joy in living the life you have always wanted. It creates a sense of satisfaction, knowing you are living the dream! Of course, living the dream can mean different things to different people. To some, it's a life spent chilling on a beech with a piña colada in your hand and sand between your toes. To others, it could be a dream job just doing what you love. Whatever your concept of "living the dream," we can all agree that having a dream come true is quite fulfilling. Here are three steps to take as you think about how to live your dream.

Step 1: Imagine Your Dream

It's impossible to get somewhere if you don't know where you are going. Therefore, your first duty in living your dream is to imagine it. Walt Disney calls it imagineering. The idea here is to create a mental picture of your desired future, with the intention of implementing those creative ideas into practical form later.

Step 2: Believe it Is Possible.

Walt Disney is indeed an example of one who has created possibilities through belief. I agree with his idea that "All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them." Hence, believing in yourself, your gifts, and your abilities would be best. Believe that if others can do it, you can do it too. In other words, you have to see it happening before it becomes a reality mentally.

Step 3: Live Your Life.

Some time ago, I experienced something remarkable at a security checkpoint while on my way to a speaking appointment. Imagine that! He said as he glanced at my VIP pass while approaching the driver's side of my vehicle. Imagine what? I asked. The guy in that sewer truck before you just made my day! He remarked. How so? I continued. I asked him as he pulled up, "How are you?" He told me with enthusiasm, "I am living my dream!" His response blew me away, the security officer concluded. The officer was amazed that someone could be driving a sewer truck and living the dream simultaneously. I was amazed too.

During my encounter at this security checkpoint, I realized that living the dream can mean different things to different people. The Truth, though, is that most people in our world today are living their fear and not their dream. With that said an essential part of living your dream is to start living life right now. So it is living your life today by being the person you hope to become. So how about you? Are you living your dream or living your fear? You owe it to yourself to live your dream. Furthermore, your dream is possible, and they can come true.
