Life is not just about living. It’s about living well. It’s about living your best life now. Living your best life possible, requires that you push yourself beyond your self-imposed limits. This includes living at the edge of your capability, staying true to your call, and learning to embrace pain.

Living At The Edge of Your Capability

Few people attain a great life, largely because they settle for a good life. There mantra is; “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” In other words, be satisfied with where you are. The question though is this; “Why settle for a good life when you can have a great life?” The approach to life therefore, should not be, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” Instead it should be; “if it ain’t broke improve it.”

In order for you to live your best life possible, you have to learn to live at the edge of your capability. Your edge is the highest point of your ability. It is that place mentally, physically or professionally where you experience tension from stretching yourself beyond what you are currently doing. Living at your edge therefore means, going the extra mile when you feel like stopping. It is challenging yourself to take one more step, when you feel like you are at your limit. Simply put, it is choosing to challenge yourself with the desire to see how far you can go.

Stay True To Your Call

When you live your life based on a sense of call – doing what you love and what you are good at – your life can be transformed from good to great. The story of Walt Disney exemplifies what is meant by staying true to your call. Having been rejected by numerous film companies that refused to employ him, Mr. Disney used his meager savings, to set up a studio in his uncle’s garage, where he began making animated cartoons. In 1934, Mr. Disney, driven by his sense of purpose, took the leap and became the first to ever create successful full-length animated films, including Snow White and Pinocchio.

Like Walt Disney, many of the world’s greatest have confessed to have experienced a sense of calling that has guided them forward to being their best. Staying true to your call will therefore act as an impetus to get you out of a place of comfort, as you push yourself to the next level of your life, career or profession and have you living your best life possible.

Learn To Embrace Pain

As human beings we are hard wired to avoid pain. Whenever you feel pain your “fight” or “flight” instinct kicks in, as the brain lets you know that what you are doing is wrong, and you need to stop now. The truth is, not all pain is bad. As a matter of fact some amount of discomfort is required as a part of a successful training program for athletes. If you are going to build muscles you have to engage in some amount of strenuous exercise.

Embracing pain is going to be vital for you too, if you are to grow, attain greatness and live the best life you are capable of living. On the path to becoming your best self, bend, don’t break! Ask yourself, “what is the worst thing that could happen to me if I embrace the pain?” If the answer isn’t death or the end of the world, endure it. Embrace the temporary pain for the joy that is ahead and grow through it, as you go through it. The fact is, it is only, through this pain that we can grow and experience higher levels of joy and achievement possible.
