Successful people are generally early risers. As a child growing up, I was told that the early bird catches the worm. There seems to be a lot of truth in this adage. By rising early, high achievers benefit from a few extra hours, with less distractions and more energy to knock off some important things from their to-do list, while being in a very creative and fresh mental state.

2. They practice a morning routine
High achievers have a morning routine that they use to set themselves up for success during the day. Of a fact, what we do during the first hour of our morning, has profound impact on what the rest of our day will look like. Considering that you have gotten your essential 7-8 hours sleep, getting up early and filling your first hour with exercise, meditation or some positive, motivating and creative activities can get you ready for a productive day.

3. They set ambitious goals
Goal setting is the first proven step in achieving success. For high achievers they know what they want and they are relentless in achieving them. As a matter of fact, they generally set big audacious goals. Goals that stretch them and cause them to grow and be better. Furthermore, high achievers are obsessed about their goals and think about them 24/7.

Knowing what to do first and what to do next is a skill that is mastered by high achievers. They know what is important and what is urgent and so they are good at prioritizing and creating that priority to-do list. By approaching each day in this manner, they are able to progressively move closer and faster towards achieving their set goals.

Gratitude is good for one’s well-being and high achievers practice it often. They count their blessings, recognizing that, no matter how bad things are, there is always something for which they can be grateful. A lot of my coaching clients who have started to include the practice of being grateful every day, have acknowledged that since starting this practice, they have noticed a more positive attitude and greater fulfillment in their life.

6. They self-care
Just like investing in the upkeep of your car, your life needs ongoing self-care for optimal performance. High achievers invest in their health, by getting adequate rest. Good nutrition and daily exercise are also habits of high achievers, as they engage in taking care of their personal wellbeing.

7. Grow daily
Growth is an important feature in the life of high achievers. They have a growth plan, which means they are intentional about improving their life and view personal growth as a way of reaching their full potential. Hence, they read a lot, regularly attend workshops and hire professional coaches to push them to the next level.

8. They spend time with like-minded people
Spending time with like-minded people is one of the best ways to succeed and high achievers know that. This is why they remove toxic people from their life and spend time instead with positive and purpose-driven people. In fact, if you surround yourself with high achievers, you’ll soon become one of them.

9. They know when to say no
According to Warren Buffet, “The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.” High achievers are generally confident people who are not riddled with guilt for saying no. They know that when they say no to a lot of things, they are saying yes to the things that matter most. Their saying no to so many things can inevitably make a difference between a productive day or one that’s not.
